Abstract: Intravenous therapy has been developed over years of research and experience, to manage a large number of medical conditions. This therapy is used to correct electrolyte imbalances, to deliver medications, for blood transfusion or as fluid replacement to correct, for example, dehydration. Intravenous therapy can also be used for chemo therapy. Compared with other routes of administration, the intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver fluids and medications throughout the body. The bioavailability of the medication is 100% in IV therapy.
This review has been developed as a basic guidance to safe and competent intravenous therapy. So many aspects of therapy are covered. However there view has not been designed as a definitive text and should be supported in conjunction with other published material, for which references are provided. |
